Hello readers, and Happy New Year!
There is a board meeting tonight at 7:30pm. (It will be held at Lincoln Roosevelt Auditorium- 34 N. Hillside Ave., Succasunna, NJ)
The last meeting was held on January 4, and the new members were sworn in.
Meetings are being live streamed and can be viewed HERE.
Tonight’s agenda is available HERE.
What we will be looking out for is:
– How new and old members vote on the our teachers’ training opportunities. Moms for Liberty (M4L) adjacent members historically have voted against our educators taking any trainings that discuss SEL (social emotional learning- programs that teach students how to manage emotions, empathize with others, and maintain positive relationships), diversity, equity, inclusion, or anything involving sex Ed. Previously these no votes were the minority. That may change with the newly sworn in board members, in which case our educators and administrators may be prevented from attending trainings/professional development.
-Commentary on restorative justice grant from Kean. Since restorative justice encompasses empathy (SEL), diversity, equity (the things M4L despises) it’s likely there could be pushback on the restorative justice grant. Here is more info on restorative justice.
-How quickly board members will bring up repealing policy 5756 AGAIN. In December the board voted to keep the policy, but board member Purcell has previously asked if it can be revisited until they “get what they want,” which is to have the policy repealed.
Be sure to tune in tonight and stay updated!
